Waverley Borough Council "Clean Air Art Competition"

Congratulations to Katie Breach, Selina Mather and Annabel Muir who won a prize in the "Clean Air Art Competition". They had to design a picture which featured ideas on how to keep the air clean and reduce air pollution.  Their artwork will appear in a Clean Air 2012 calendar which will be distributed to all schools in the New Year.

CONGRATULATIONS to St Hilary's Catering Team for winning the "Planet Matters" Trophy and for achieving a Food Hygiene Rating 5 from Waverley Borough Council

Take part in the Woodland Trust Nature Detectives Treasure Hunt and discover a secret chest overflowing with treasure hunting activities - let school know what you find! www.naturedetectives.org.uk       

Homebase 'Grow Your Own' Initiative

Supported by Keep Britain Tidy, have selected St Hilary's School to be part of this scheme and volunteers are making preparations to work with pupils in the Lower School on this project. An area of our school grounds will be put to good use by the children who will be digging and planting an assortment of vegetables. We will keep you updated on their progress.

Have a go at the activities set up by the charity The Young People's Trust For The Environment and visit www.ypte.co.uk to gain a greater understanding of the environment and the need for sustainability. 

On Thursday 17th November, 5B assembly was based around the Eco theme "Food for Thought". They recommended visiting www.greatgrubclub.com

 

FAIRTRADE - St Hilary's School were the first independent school in Surrey to obtain the Fair Trade School Status award. The pupils are regularly creating fun Fair Trade activities that involve the whole school.

Congratulations! Once again St Hilary's has successfully renewed their Fair Trade School status for 2012.

FAIRTRADE FORTNIGHT 2012

          27th February - 11 March 2012        

 

St Hilary's School has now registered 250 'STEPS' towards the Fair Trade Foundations goal. Check out the step-o-meter on the Fair Trade website to see how many steps are still being collected and counted. The target is 1.5 million!

Winners of the Fair Trade Survey

A huge thank you to Waitrose, Godalming for donating the fantastic prizes for our Fair Trade initiative and to all the families and pupils who took part. The Upper School girls have been busy collating the FT survey results, which Year 4 will now summarize in their ICT lessons - the final results will be on display shortly.

Every pupil has created their 'Take A Step' pledge and written on individual footprints, these are now displayed around the school, so follow the steps and take a look!

5B Fairtrade Fortnight Assembly, 22nd February 2012

Cookery Club, with the help of Head Cook, Michele Marshall, are making sure they use Fairtrade products in their baking this term. 

            

       Group 2 Cookery Club have also been busy baking!

2011 Fair Trade Bunting Achieves the World Record!

A 3,427.94m length of Fair Trade cotton bunting stretched across Batersea Park to acheive the world record for the longest piece of Bunting! St Hilary's School was not only a part of that record breaking bunting, but also a part of the creative petition supporting fair trade and trade justice in cotton.

PROJECTS & ACTIVITIES

Pen Recycling Scheme - Collect Your Old Pens NOW!

The Eco team have put a box in the Link Corridor. Please put your old pens from these brands - Berol, Papermate, Bic and Sharpie into the box. For every pen you put in the box our school will get 2p. Each child who sends in a pen will get a housepoint! The pens will be recycled into a variety of items.

Jewellery Recycling Project Raises a Terrific £41

Staff and pupils donated unwanted jewellery to a recycling scheme organised by the Eco-team. The project raised £41 for the school's on-going Eco projects. The Eco Committee would like to thank everyone who kindly took time to contribute.
