Welcome from the Headmistress

Dear Parents,

Dedicated, well-qualified teachers with support staff, small classes and excellent facilities are only a small part of our day school which aims to be non-selective and provide a stimulating, safe environment in which boys up to 7+ and girls up to 11+ can develop, be happy and flourish.

We believe in promoting high expectations and aim to give each child a firm foundation of knowledge and understanding in all subjects along with a life-long desire to learn. Above all we value the people who form the St Hilary's family and want our pupils to feel encouraged to work hard and have fun. As Headmistress I also encourage this belief by directing a Year 6 Production every year, so that girls leave us confident and with a feeling of self-worth.

We are proud of our ethos which promotes traditional values like courtesy, respect for others and doing one's best. Pupils are encouraged to gain self-confidence and we encourage them by providing opportunities for creativity, self-expression and social development.

There is so much on offer at St Hilary’s to support your child's education: a broad curriculum, specialist teaching in the Upper School, a varied extra-curricular programme, as well as a purpose-built science laboratory, an art and D&T studio, library, all weather pitches with adjacent multi-purpose Hiorns Centre, music rooms and modern ICT suite.

We have an excellent record of successes with transfers to prestigious boys' preparatory and girls' senior schools, with many pupils obtaining scholarships. Above all we cherish our independence and take the trouble to match each child to the appropriate school for him or her.

No informative literature can replace the value of direct experience. Enjoy exploring our website but do come and see us. We will be delighted to welcome you and show you St Hilary’s: a school we are proud to belong to.
