Learning Support

At St Hilary’s School, we are dedicated to supporting every child and take pride in our fully inclusive approach to teaching and learning. We work hard to ensure that all pupils have equal access to a wide range of educational opportunities and to a broad, balanced curriculum that nurtures curiosity, independence, and a lifelong love of learning.

We are also committed to working closely with parents and external agencies so that any additional needs are identified at the earliest stage and the right support and provision are put in place.

Early recognition of difficulties is important to ensure the children retain and increase their self-esteem and confidence. To this end, the school offers parents the opportunity to have their children take part in a dyslexia screening programme. PREST screening is offered in the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage), DEST-2 in Pre-Prep and a Dyslexia Screener is available for pupils in Years 3 to 6. The results are used to direct the support required including support from other professionals.

Communication with parents is also an integral part of Learning Support and if parents have any concerns about their children, they are encouraged to make an appointment with the school to discuss them. Children in EYFS will have and Surrey Support plan and those in Pre-Prep and Prep will have a pupil profile and an Individual Education Plan (IEP) which is reviewed termly.

In Pre-Prep and Prep, the Learning Support staff provide small group sessions to give the pupils at St Hilary's every opportunity to achieve their full academic potential. The lessons are 30 minutes in duration and take place during the school day but not during core subject teaching.
